Wiki Assignments
Individual
I’d like you to explore at least one other type of wiki software. You’ll each create an individual article that compares and contrasts Wikispaces with Mediawiki, Socialtext, or PBwiki.
Your article will be published to our Wikispaces Page.
- Add your name to the Authors page. (Your page will probably have the same name as you.) You can write your comparison directly on that page.
- I’d like to see that you’ve figured out how to insert pictures and links. Be sure to format your text so it’s easier for me to read.
- How easy is it to set up? – How easy will it be to invite others?
- Your article should explore the way the 2 (or more) of the wiki software handles editing. (Is it WYSIWYG? Does it have templates? Automatic Headings?, comments?)
- Version Control – How is page history handled?
- Discussion – Is there a place to talk about the article outside of the article itself? How do authors justify their edits?
- Subscription to articles – How can you be notified of changes to the pages you contribute to?
- Security – How will you be able to control page edits?
- Contributions – How can teachers see what each student has contributed to the wiki?
Group
We’ll use Wikispaces to co-author articles on Blogs, Wikis, Podcasts, and Web 2.0. I’ll be able to see what you’ve contributed to the articles by viewing the page history. Be sure to share your input on each of the articles.
These pages will be active until the end of our class. 8/9, but I don’t want everyone to wait until the last minute. Please begin making contributions now.
(If I don’t see progress on the pages, I’m going to break you into groups and add in some due dates.)
Additional Note:
Originally I was planning on asking the group for feedback on our eHandbook, but I’ve cancelled that part of our assignment. If you have feedback to share with me, you can, but it is optional.
I’d like each of you to use Wikispaces to create your own assessment of the eHandbook.
