Podcast Assignments
Assignment 1 – Audio Podcast
You’ll use Garage Band or Audacity to create a 1-3 minute audio podcast. Upload the file to your edublog.
Assignment 2 – Video podcast
Once you’ve created your Online learning environment, you’ll make a screencast, video podcast, or slideshow presentation that explains the site to your classmates, future users, and instructor (me).
It should explain who you made the site for, and what they’re going to learn or do by using your site.
Show how the site works, and what your expectations are as administrator/teacher of this site.
It should be 4-8 minutes long.
What software should you use? I’ll leave it up to you. Here are a few options.
- Use Jing – it’s a free screencasting tool for Mac and PC. James Farmer used it to do the Edublog movies. I’ve used it a couple times. Unfortunately, you can’t do any editing, but you can narrate as you move your mouse on screen. (Don’t forget this tip for getting it to work with your edublog)
- You can use Garage Band. Add picture to the Podcast Track at the top. It’ll make a file called an (.m4a file that can be a little tricky to view, but I can work with it.) If you make an enhanced podcast, be sure to uncheck the box that says “resize to 300 by 300″ so that I can see your screen clearly.
- Take pictures of your site and put them into Powerpoint. Narrate your slides, then publish it all as a Web page.
- Get out your director’s chair, and video editing software. You can make a movie of yourself interspersed with images from your site. You should only go for this option if you’ve got video skills already (or a lot of time to learn.) I’d use something like Camtasia so that I could record from my video camera, as well as recording my mouse moving on screen. If you’re slick with video editing software, you can do it with still images, too.
