Podcast Tutorials
You’ve got 2 assignments where you’ll be making podcasts. The first is a 1-minute audio podcast. Be sure to include your voice and some background music and/or sound effects. You’ll upload that audio file to your edublog as I’ve done below. Listen to my sample for a little more information.
Here is a link to the Apple’s tutorial for Garage Band. It’s a good intro, but I hesitate to use it. You do not need to make chapter markers, or an enhanced podcast. You should not use iWeb to upload your file. (At least, not for this class)
Instead, you’ll create your podcast, save it to the disc, then insert it into your edublog using the add media button for audio in the edublog editing window.
I’ve made a brief screen movie that shows you more about using Garage Band. Click here to view Karl’s tutorial.
For PC users, you’ll need to download the free audacity program. Once you’ve installed it, you’ll need to follow these directions on how to install the LAME plugin that you need to export your podcast as an .mp3 file. If you don’t install LAME, you won’t be able to get the .mp3 file that you need.
To help you get started using Audacity, these tutorials show you how to create a podcast with Audacity.

Question about the content of the podcast: Do I need to convey any specific instructional content, or is this more an exercise to run through the steps to publishing a podcast?
Thanks!
One more question: The first paragraph on this page states that we will make two podscasts. I see an explanation of the first but not the second. Professor Karl, can you please help me find the explanation of the second? Thanks

I found the info for the second podcast it’s in the rubric. (duh)
Ther’es more info coming on the tools you can use for the 2nd podcast. I’m hoping to get that post up today.
I was glad to see your garage band screencast. It explained the editing process well.
The sound worked well throughout, except when you “played” the tracks or demonstrated ducking.
Oh NO! I wonder what the ducking problem was!
Audacity and LAME are very easy to use. Take it from me — I am not an audio engineer and I could figure it out!
My podcast is here, click on cordoba1.

My question, it is a link that goes to the audio. It works, but it looks so different from yours. How can I insert the play button like you? I have to admit, I was just guessing. I see you said we will get more instructions later? Garageband is tricky.
Just a note to say how much fun I had creating my first podcast. I had never worked with Garage Band or podcasting so the whole idea was “greek” to me. After an overview by Greg, one of our class members, I was ready to attempt it. WOW! What a great time I had laughing at myself, my mistakes, my silly ideas and finally my grandkids in my final product.
