Edublogs.tv
Thanks to this article on Larry Ferlazzo’s blog, I think I’ve found a great resource for teachers to use for podcasting or video podcasting. Edublogs.tv just launched in July. Typically I wouldn’t recommend something I haven’t had a chance to use, but the edublogs crew that has put together this wonderful blogging community has earned my trust.
The edublogs.tv site is very similar to teachertube.com, it’s a Youtube for educators. You can upload your own video files (currently up to 50 mB, but moving to 100mB soon). Clever people that they are, the edublogs.tv programmers have added a feature that lets you grab any school-friendly youtube videos and import them into edublogs.tv, which (hopefully) your IT crew allows into your school.
At this point, your edublogs.org user account is different from your edublogs.tv account. If you plan on using video or podcasts in your classroom, this might be the tool you’re looking for.
Youtube has so many distracting videos, that it can be hard to use. In under a minute I was able to find a video this good. Hope you enjoy it, too. I think it summarized many of the points I wanted to make about the next generation of learners in a way that I found powerful.
Your prompt:
Leave a link to another good video you found on Edublogs.tv

This video reminds me of the kind of kid that I was. I met the teacher described at the end in my first year of community college. He’s the reason why I’m a teacher.

Tried to find some videos on subjects that I’m teaching in the classroom right now. Seems that the pickings are slim for history. One of the first featured videos that caught my eye was based on a hobby of mine, astronomy. Here’s a short video of this past week’s solar eclipse.

I didn’t find a great deal of interesting videos in edublogs.tv at this time. The subject matter is limited. I did find one guy, the Chem Guy, who is making extensive use of this medium. This video is about solutions.

Because I am insanly jealous of those that can speed read properly and many of my students are always interested in this topic. It also seemed like fun topic for observations.

I know that this site will just take off once teachers get back to school. Right now there wasn’t too much that I can use. However there was an advertisement for Telenor Communications Services that was pretty cool.

I’m going to try this with my own kids right now!

I found this useful–Podcasting in Moodle. Our district is all about Moodle, but I’m not sure now that it’s worth it to do Moodle with the constraints of time and the wonderful tools I’ve discovered in Wikis and Edublog!

Sorry, the link wasn’t right, try this:

I found this video on Parent Reading Coaches interesting for integrating into a school. It gives the students an alternative to reading in the classroom providing them with more opportunities to succeed.

I thought this was a funny and entertaining video. It’s called The Top 10 Algebra Mistakes. The speaker is very animated and uses music to help identify the most commonly made algebraic mistakes. I think student’s would laugh and learn from this one. Check it out:

This video was great. It has some parts of a very popular video on teacher tube about our future of teaching but this one was with students. I thought it would be great to show a staff of teachers at the beginning of the school year.

It’s about how Moodle can change a school for the better.

This is a good one that came out last year. You’ve probably already seen it, but if not…then PAY ATTENTION.

This is a great video I saw at a recent Geography Institute: http://edublogs.tv/play.php?vid=406
This is video showed how to embed a voicethread into an edublog — very clear, just like an edtec tutorial. Now I just need to learn more about voicethreads!

I put in a search for “math” — not too may videos showed up (like 4). One was a scary math rap. One was this funny Abbot and Costello bit where he is showing how 7 x 13 = 28.

I could have stayed on the Edublogs.tv site for hours. I discovered several videos I could use in presentations and some great ideas for creating my own videos.
Two of my favorite videos were:
The Best Inservice Ever! A Funny Thing Happened Leaving No Child Behind.

Just a chuckle to share with a group of teachers…
Pay Attention- Teaching 2.0 digital natives (21st century learners) to pay attention

The best quote in the video: “When I go to school I have to power down!” How true that is for 80% of our students, we need to meet the needs of our 21st century learners.
I was disappointed with:
The Essay- A girl recites a her story of technology in the future.

The video started out great, it actually gave me an idea for a student project, but it ended up being a commercial, “boo-hoo”.
I loved the example you gave us…..what an inspiring video!!!
I also liked the humorous inservice one:

I didn’t find anything when I searched business related topics, but I did find a good one on Google Docs from the Common Craft folks:

Not sure if this one is legal or not, but this Beatles fan couldn’t resist sharing this one.

I found this interesting. It sort of resembles Karl’s, same message. I wish we could play this the first week of prep for my staff! We need more teachers on board with the 21st century way of learning.

I found this one to be entertaining. They took the first televised presidential debate and had NIxon debate with Kennedy. I wonder if the people who watched the debate had a different opinion of who won from those that just heard the debate on the radio.

We need more leaders thinking like these leaders.

Being that it is an election year and all, I found this video extremely humorous:

OK, I was just browsing through the entries and saw that someone had already posted the video I did. So here is one that I just find amusing because I love cats:
